Thomas Larkin Turner papers, 1836-1841.

The collection consists of papers of Thomas Larkin Turner from 1836-1841. Includes correspondence, receipts, and a diary/account book. The materials mainly pertain to Turner's work as a draftsman and surveyor for the Brunswick and Florida Railroad in southeastern Georgia and Florida. The correspondence discusses problems with the local geography in relation to surveying, the need to leave heavy equipment behind due to bogs and marshy areas, and Turner's attempts to receive full payment for his services. The diary functioned as an account book and contains lists of supplies on hand and those needed; employee accounts which included the employee's name, items purchased, price, and when account paid; and lists of things to be done. A few pages in the diary describe routes taken, problems with equipment, and weather conditions. Additional materials include correspondence from Turner's father, Larkin Turner and Turner's friend, William Richardson as well as a document concerning hiring slaves for labor.
